Trauma in Cyprus
Our client was a Mozambican national, working in Cyprus for a security firm clearing landmines. He stepped on a mine during his duties, and his left foot had to be amputated. We and our local agents arranged for his flight to South Africa for a prosthesis fitting assessment. After successful surgery, accommodation near the hospital was found so he could have physiotherapy, and he was then repatriated back to Mozambique.
The whole story
When our Mozambican client went to work one day in Cyprus, his life was changed forever. Employed by a security firm clearing landmines, he stepped on a mine. Immediately admitted to hospital for emergency treatment, his left foot had to be amputated. The next phase in his treatment was assessment of his suitability for a prosthesis fitting. Intana Global supported this process:
- Once he was sufficiently healed and recovered from the traumatic operation, we arranged for him to be transferred by commercial airline with a medical escort to South Africa
- Our local South African agents then arranged for his re-admission to hospital, in order that the leg stump could be assessed for a prosthesis fitting
- This was positive, and the stump was remodelled and prepared for the prosthesis
- Three weeks later our client was discharged, but he needed to be accommodated locally in readiness for the fitting
- We made arrangements for local accommodation near the hospital until the fitting was completed and a course of physio-therapy was completed
The prosthesis fitting was a success, and we arranged for our client’s repatriation back to Mozambique shortly afterwards.
